Beschreibung

Large and high qualitative bronze sculpture by famous French sculptor Jean Baptiste Baujault (1828, La Crèche near Breloux/Deux-Sèvres - 1899 ibid ). After a stay in Niort, Baujault went to Paris in 1849 with a scholarship from that city and studied at the École des Beaux-Arts (ECBA) under François Jouffroy from 1852. In 1854 and 1855, he participated unsuccessfully in the competition for the Grand Prix de Sculpt.; in 1878, he was made a Knight of the Legion of Honor. Baujault created traditional portraits, allegories, and genre scenes in plaster, terracotta, marble, bronze, and stone. The success with his contemporaries was primarily due to the pleasing aesthetic and perfection of his sculptures. His best works include the marble sculptures Le premier miroir (around 1873), Jeune Gaulois and the large bronze statue Le Colonel Denfert-Rocherau.
